RASA is a Sanskrit term meaning "sap," "essence" or "fluid" and in the spiritual tradition, the emotional or aesthetic impression of a work of art.

 

I am an independent artiste from South Africa. My lineage extends to my forefathers from India hence the dynamic Indian traditional influence in my music style.

​

In RASA I have rendered my voice to compositions based on praise of the Divine. The lyrics are by 15th and 16th century poets Surdas, Kabirdas, Raidas, Mirabai, Chandrasakhi and Adi Shankaracarya an early 8th century Indian philosopher and theologian.

The mood ranges from soft melodious to upbeat and peppy. 

 

RASA was recorded live in studio which is very rarely conducted nowadays in India.

I chose to record my album live with musicians in the studio as this is how I like to present myself as an artiste. When recording live, we have to function as a cohesive team as you would when performing in a concert. This creates a special energy that becomes embodied in the recording. The recording sounds more authentic and organic and little nuances are brought out that make the recording more unique. Besides, it is fun and exciting to record live. The bond between the artistes is phenomenal as compared to dubbing ones vocals to a track on a metronome. Music really does take on a life of its own when performed live, and songs that are recorded this way take on special qualities that make them unique.
